Criminal Law

In Criminal Law the extreme cases are the challenge.  In his practice Attorney Crozier has handled thousands of homicides from murders to manslaughter to DWI homicides.

In January of 2007 in Danbury, Ben Hicock was found not guilty in a DWI homicide of everything including evading responsibility.

In 2006 Mr. Richard McDaniel’s murder case was nolled after a jury was selected.  September (2006) in Danbury Tan Prazeres’ case was reversed by the Appellate Court and he was allowed sentence review.

Also in Danbury a convicted pedophile was released after Attorney Crozier proved the ankle bracelet was not reliable.

In 1994 the youngest defendant in a death penalty / life imprisonment case was Prudencio Ortiz who was acquitted and sentenced only to manslaughter, even after the famous Dr. Henry Lee testified as the states star witness.

In State vs. Gavigali 20 Conn. App. 810 (1989) the Appellate Court reversed a conviction for failure to properly canvass a defendant.

In State vs. Holloway 26 Conn. App. 910 (1991) the Appellate Court ordered the lower court to return the defendants firearms.

Attorney Crozier has handled not hundreds but thousands of criminal cases successfully and is a well known criminal defense trial lawyer.

Results are based on the merits of each individual case.

Domestic Relations

In Domestic Relations Attorney Crozier handles a weekly caseload consisting of; Divorce, Dissolution of Marriage, Paternity, Custody, Child Support, Adoption, Termination of Rights, Juvenile Issues and Neglect Petitions.  Since 1977 he has concentrated in negotiating settlements on his clients’ behalf.  He has tried Divorces in every jurisdiction from Stamford to New London, from Litchfield to New Haven.

In the 1970's men did not receive alimony and the statute actually said only women were entitled.  In New Haven Attorney Crozier obtained alimony for a man based on sexual discrimination and equal protection.

In the 1980's alimony was ordered and women would live with another man and not get married so as not to lose alimony.  Attorney Crozier tried the leading case of Paul Duhl which defined when alimony should be terminated or suspended due to cohabitation.

In 1990 Attorney Crozier appealed in Sachs vs. Sachs 216 Conn. 815 and the Supreme Court ruled that wives could testify as to the value of property not turned over by the other party and the court could order in lieu of the property money damages without the need for an expert’s opinion or appraisal.

Attorney Crozier has fought for long overdue child support and garnished banks (Sylvia vs Westport Bank and Trust 14 Conn. App. 579 {1988}) to get thousands from un-paying parents.

Whether it be a custody battle or division of assets Attorney Crozier is well respected as a thoroughly prepared articulate advocate who succeeds in pleasing his clients whether they be husband, wife, mother, father, grandparents or guardian.

Civil Cases

In civil cases Attorney Crozier has tried both sides of the case for defendant and plaintiff; everything from auto accidents to medical malpractice.  In today’s economy insurance companies are doing everything not to pay reasonable damages forcing lawyers to prepare their files, institute suit and be prepared to try the case.

This past year Attorney Crozier (2007-2008) prepared and negotiated successfully to settle, short of trial, the case of David Obrys vs. Brass City Trucking for the entire insurance policy of one million dollars.  Settlement without the exposure of trail in this day and age with a company like Allstate or Progressive is remarkable, and can only be achieved with thorough preparation of all the medical records, medical bills and backup damages.

Civil Trial however consists of much more than slip and falls and auto accidents.  Attorney Crozier is well known for Construction litigation, and breach of contract law, not just negligence.

Attorney Crozier has recovered in excess of twenty (20) million dollars by negotiating agreements without suit as well as from law suits.

Real Estate

Real Estate law and litigation is another of Attorney Crozier’s fortes.  The details of property law such as boundaries, easements, liens, title defects, adverse possession and chain of title are well known to Attorney Crozier.  He has for the past decade served and been elected on Southbury’s Inland-Wetland board.  He has successfully presented large developments and subdivisions in Oxford, Beacon Falls, Waterbury, Southbury, Winsted and many other towns.  He has represented dozens of companies seeking permits and licenses including numerous restaurants through out the state.

Attorney Crozier is approved as closing attorney for dozens of banks and lending institutions.  While closings are normal practice for a law firm difficult real estate transactions are the norm for Attorney Crozier.

Presently he is handling an age restricted development on hundreds of acres consisting of hundreds of units in Winsted and another in Beacon Falls.  Attorney Crozier is known for pleading and obtaining sub division approval before Inland-Wetlands, Planning and Zoning boards, sewer boards, Army Corp of Engineers and the like.

The practice of Real Estate law is much more than refinancing a mortgage or buying or selling a house and Attorney Crozier is prepared to handle the most difficult of situations.
